Homayoon Majdzadeh was born in Kerman, Iran. He has a master’s degree in mechanical engineering.

In childhood, Homayoon learned drawing and painting from an outstanding local maestro, Mr. Khaleghi.

As a teenager, he was impressed by heavy metal music of the era. He was 17 when he bought his first electric guitar; a gateway to the world of music. So Homayoon became a self-thought musician whose ultimate goal from the beginning was to form a metal band inspired by Iranian music.

Kahtmayan, an ancient persian old noun, was the name he chose for his band and designed the logo by a reed pen. Kahtmayan’s unique sound comes from riffs which are made based on oriental scales. In addition, middle-eastern rhythmic patterns play a significant role in the compositions and Homayoon’s signature style in guitar solos enhance the oriental atmosphere of the music. As one of the first metal bands in Iran’s music history, Kahtmayan started to perform live shows in 2001.

Homayoon’s passion for the art of guitar playing and his curiosity for production of instrumental music led him to produce his solo albums, alongside the band’s projects.

In 2011, Abdi Ohadi invited Homayoon to join the band Aortae as the lead guitar player.

Aortae is a progressive/avant-garde band and has released an album entitled Schizotherapy.

Furthermore, in cooperation with Shahriar Seighalani as the lead singer, Homayoon has formed a modern metal band named Sorb.

In addition to being a composer and a guitar player; Homayoon is a professional sound engineer and beside his personal projects, he has participated in many other projects as composer, arranger, session player, and engineer (both mixing and mastering).

The Brinks of Silence is a documentary about Homayoon’s personal life and career, directed by Omid Hashemlou. The filming of this documentary took almost seven years and it was released in 2024.
